LRFD "Filling the Boot" for Muscular Dystrophy Research

Post date: Oct 01, 2012 11:31:28 PM

On September 29th, the Long Reach Fire Department was at Kingston Farmer's Market to serve some breakfasts and raise some funds on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy research.  It turned out to be a wet and stormy day, but that didn't stop hundreds of people from coming out to the market for some great breakfasts, fresh vegetables and other wonderful products.  Thanks to the many, many market goers who stopped by our truck and put some money in our boot, we were able to raise nearly $500 for Muscular Dystrophy research.

This year marks the 58th anniversary of the association between Muscular Dystrophy research and Canadian firefighters.  What started as a project in one fire station in Toronto, has spread across the country.  Since that time, Muscular Dystrophy Canada has become a National Organization supported by more than 600 Fire Departments and Associations across Canada, who currently raise close to $3 million dollars annually – for a total of over $70 million since 1954.

Thanks again to all those who braved the rain, came by to visit, and dropped some money in the boot!  Together we can make those muscles move!
